Ex-Convict by Ashley Beale

Ex-Convict by Ashley Beale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hope Manson ruled her school senior year. When a girl in her class, Jenny, spreads a rumor about Hope, an attempt of getting even ends with Jenny dead and Hope in prison for man-slaughter. Six years later, she is let out with one goal in mind- to make a difference.
A difference for Jenny.
Hope will be anything but selfish.

Wes Styles is an asshole.
He is controlling, self obsessed, and just plain mean.
And Hope likes it. She wants someone to treat her like dirt, as a reminder of what she did.
Plus, if someone treats her like shit, she can't fall in love- right? Because falling in love is the most selfish thing you can do.

Wes Styles loves women. He loves when they're calling his name, making him come, or digging nails into his back. But he does not fall in love with women.
When Wes meets Hope, he is immediately intrigued by the fact she likes being treated like nothing more than a piece of ass.
And he knows she is holding a dark secret.
But he doesn't want to know what this secret is, because when he finds out the truth, he may leave. And for the first time in his life, he doesn't want to.

Warning: This story deals with topics not suitable for everyone. Recommended for mature adults, 18+ in age, due to intense sexual situations, violence, and strong language.

My Review

**I received an ARC for an honest review**

This is my first book by Ashley and I was pleasantly surprised.
The story follows Hope after she is released from prison after servicing 6 years for manslaughter.

Hope feels extreme remorse for what she has done and now feels like she doesn't deserve anything good.
The story shows the acts of a bully and the consequences of her actions after the bulling goes wrong. It also shows how one person can change for the good.

Wes is a playboy at heart but things change when he meets Hope, together their lives change for the better and they show each that they both deserve love and happiness.

This was a good read for me and I'll be looking into getting some more of Ashley's books

Excerpt #1
The gym manager jumps up to check the dude out and looks at me. “What the fuck did you do, man?”
I shrug. “I only hit him once.”
The manager walks over to the guy and gives him a little kick and the guy starts to grumble on the floor. Deciding that it’s time for me to get the hell out of here, I jump out of the ring and begin to
unwrap my hands of the tape. I look up and see Filthy walking toward me. “Dude, what the fuck did you do to that guy?”
I shrug. “One hit and he went down.”
Filthy shakes his head and just looks at me with wonder in his eyes. I look over at the guy in the ring
with the manager. He’ll be okay, so I turn to leave.
“See ya back at the club, brother.”
Filthy nods and goes back to working out. He may be skinny, but he’s all muscle, and I know he works out here every day. I think I need to get myself into a regular routine and hopefully find a trainer to keep my skills up. I’m not sure if I want to walk away from fighting every now and then. The money is good, and it’s fast and easy.
Excerpt #2
I am broken, and my life is no longer what it once was. I am a changed man. In the past few months, I have visited Hell and returned with a new conviction about myself; and the man that I am. Either she understands, and promises to stand behind me, and the choices I have to make in life; or she move on without me. I have a responsibility to the Dueling Dragons brotherhood first and foremost now.
I can still hear her parting words: that she hates me, burning through me as she walked out the door. Out the fucking door without a look back.
Fuck this. I need to work out this frustration and feel the inner pain. I decide to go for a ride and then hit up the gym in town. I need to feel my fist hitting flesh. I need that adrenaline high I get from fighting. It makes me feel alive and in tune with myself. I need to feel the wind at my back and just get away. It’s been months since I rode hard.
