Illict Desires is set in Miami and is a non stop page turner written mainly from Raphael's point of view. He is the head of the family, a very powerful cartel who run drugs, guns and women. Young, handsome and unbelievable wealthy he runs the family business from his Spanish Lady office tower. Upon his building steps a beautiful woman is mugged. This unsanctioned act of violence on his home turf initiates a chain of events that brings Cora into the cartel world.
"This is the truth of my my world. The reality of who and what I am. A thug with too much money and power. The world might suspect that this is what lies behind my smiles and the girls I parade through Miami, but they don't know. They don't see the back room, or hear the screams."
The violence and horror of the cartel is hinted at but not dwelled upon. Raphael makes no excuses for the way he has lived his life and doesn't hide this side of himself from Cora. Their attraction to one another is instantaneous.
"'I WANT YOU. In my office, on my arm. In my bed.'
I shudder, but the words stick to me, branding me. I never should have agreed to coffee. I should have run from him the minute I saw him."
The world simply stops revolving when they are near one another. The sex scenes are HOT! The book is fast paced and an easy read. The plot doesn't have any major surprises but they do have a couple of skeletons in their cupboards!
Cora has an inner strength, we learn what demons are chasing her and why she has ended up hiding in Miami with her stepbrother. She is a very likeable character, independent and sassy. I feel there may be more to her step brother Paul! I am looking forward to the next book in this series...I hope its not too long as it ends on a cliffhanger!
Thoroughly enjoyable short read, fast paced with likeable characters that draw you in and keep the pages turning. A four star read, highly recommended.
